Music Program

Director:  Wendy Huber

Gwendolyn Huber (Wendy) has been at the First Presbyterian Church of Bordentown since September of 1996.  She was brought up Mennonite in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and graduated from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.  When she's not at the Presbyterian Church or at home in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, she is a preschool music teacher at a couple of Princeton Nursery Schools.  She also teaches private lessons and directs a "quirky" choir in a German Singing Society.

Growing up, there was always a song on her lips and it is her goal to foster the same love of singing and the same expression through music wherever she finds herself, including in this wonderfully musical congregation.  She can't think of a better way to teach, or learn, express or worship than through music and feels fortunate to be surrounded by many like-minded people.  We have a congregation that sings hymns, psalms and responses during the service; a singing Sunday School and Youth; a dependable and talented choir who leads in worship with a variety of music styles; a handbell choir, small but mightly, and willing to rehearse at 9 PM on Thursdays; and there are other talented singers and instrumentalists, not the least of whom is our versatile and talented organist.

Parental Help Needed

The Sunday School children will join the children's choir and chimes, Adult choir, Tina Vilic on piano and Robin Lostetter on organ in singing our Palm Sunday Anthem on March 28.

Palm Sunday is an exciting Sunday in our church year and an especially wonderful time for children to be a part of the service.

To help the children enjoy their part the most, I ask you the parents to help learn a line of the first verse of this famous Palm Sunday hymn a week. I know you and your children lead busy lives so I have a suggestion. Ask your children to repeat their lines at least three times on three different days.  Suggestion: Day one:  Sunday on the way home from church. Day two: When you remember during the week (car ride?) Day three: Sunday on the way to Sunday School.  Thanks for your effort! Here's a site to click on where you can listen to this familiar hymn.  http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh278.sht

OTHER MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES
I’d like to have instrumentalists (adult and/or children) and piano players play often this year.

Instrumental opportunities:
Play a verse of a hymn on melody, harmony or descant. I have a number of hymns transposed for your instrument. If you would like me to choose a hymn for you, it would be helpful for me know what is your comfortable range (highest and lowest notes).
Appropriate music that you’ve learned for a lesson or at school for the time of meditation

Piano opportunities:
A classical style song or hymn for the time of mediation
Other songs might be appropriate (for instance: "Let it be"). Ask if in doubt.
A song you’ve composed yourself that you think would be good for meditation
Play while others sing
If you’d like help choosing music please let know at what level you play.

Special Music opportunities:
Sing the Psalm
Small groups — For example: men’s quartet, women’s quartet, trio, duo, guitar & sax, etc.

Great ways to contact me about any of these opportunities are: in person, by e-mail at giduly@juno.com or phone 215-794-2187.
